Job Description: 

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead and drive the performance of our QLD Spray Seal business.

 

Reporting to the Regional Manager, this role is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the business, ensuring we achieve our safety, quality, customer satisfaction, employee engagement, and financial performance objectives. You will play a pivotal role in optimising resources, managing bitumen logistics, developing operational capability, and driving sustainable growth across our QLD markets.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the day-to-day operations to achieve safety, quality, customer satisfaction, employee engagement, and financial performance targets.
  • Ensure all work is undertaken in compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, and COLAS standards relating to safety, environment, and quality.
  • Oversee the efficient allocation and utilisation of people, plant, equipment, and bitumen logistics to maximize operational performance.
  • Support and manage the Operations team to ensure accurate forecasting, reporting, and performance tracking against business objectives.
  • Ensure efficient procurement and management of the supply chain to support strong project execution and budget performance.
  • Review and assess the QLD spray seal market, identifying opportunities to optimise resource utilisation and strengthen COLAS's market position in both the short and long term.
  • Build and maintain strong operational relationships with key clients and stakeholders, contractors, suppliers, consultants, and local government authorities.
  • Work with the Regional Manager to develop and grow the Bitumen Supply business into a profitable business unit.
  • Monitor and manage remedial works, ensuring issues are accurately captured, reported, and addressed in line with company requirements and performance targets.
  • Provide visible leadership that promotes an engaged, high-performing, and accountable workforce.
  • Work alongside Supervisors to identify, develop, and retain key talent within the business.
  • Support workforce capability planning through the maintenance of skills and training matrices in collaboration with leadership teams.
  • Drive ownership and accountability across the QLD Spray Seal team for safety performance, operational excellence, and achievement of both short and long-term business goals.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Significant operational leadership experience within spray sealing, road maintenance, civil construction, asphalt, or a related industry.
  • Demonstrated experience leading large operational teams and managing multiple projects and resources.
  • Strong understanding of spray sealing operations, bitumen logistics, and supply chain management.
  • Proven ability to deliver operational and financial performance targets.
  • Exceptional stakeholder management skills and the ability to build trusted relationships across industry, government, and commercial sectors.
  • Strong commercial acumen, including planning, forecasting, budgeting, and performance reporting.
  • A proactive and solution-focused leadership style with a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • A strong commitment to safety leadership and fostering a positive workplace culture.
