Job Description: 

The Role

We are seeking a motivated Site Engineer to join our team in Hervey Bay. Working closely with our Project Managers, Supervisors, paving crews, clients and subcontractors, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality road construction and surfacing projects across the region.

 

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys being hands-on, solving problems on site, and contributing to projects that make a lasting impact on local communities.

Graduates will also be considered.

 

Key Responsibilities include:

 

Project Planning & Delivery

  • Complete project pre-planning activities with project teams and clients, ensuring program requirements are reviewed and aligned with Supervisors.
  • Support project delivery teams in achieving project objectives across safety, quality, time and cost performance.
  • Assist in the supervision and management of project activities to ensure successful contract execution.
  • Maintain project registers, records and reporting requirements.

 

Site Coordination & Supervision

  • Supervise subcontractors on-site, ensuring compliance with project, client and company requirements.
  • Assist in identifying labour, plant, equipment and competency requirements for contract works.
  • Review subcontractor work method statements, plant, personnel and competencies before commencement of works.
  • Maintain strong communication with internal stakeholders, clients, suppliers and subcontractors.

 

Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Support Supervisors and paving teams in matters relating to design, specifications and quality requirements.
  • Monitor site quality processes and ensure works comply with project specifications and standards.
  • Accurately document site activities, including photographic records, time records and quality-related issues.
  • Identify and report non-conformances within required timeframes and assist in preparing Non-Conformance Reports.
  • Assist in ensuring all works are completed in accordance with contractual, safety, environmental and quality requirements.

 

Commercial & Contract Administration

  • Assist in managing commercial outcomes through accurate record keeping and contract administration.
  • Ensure project notifications and documentation are maintained.
  • Support the administration of contracts and project documentation throughout the project lifecycle.

 

Health, Safety, Environment & Quality (WHSEQ)

  • Assist with Project Site Safety Inductions and onboarding requirements.
  • Support the development and delivery of project-specific inductions and communication of project hazards and risk controls.
  • Assist in communicating design risks, safety requirements and environmental controls to project personnel.
  • Champion a positive safety culture and demonstrate Colas Queensland's commitment to safety, quality and environmental excellence.

About You

  • Civil Engineering Tertiary Qualifications.
  • General Conditions of Contract experience in AS2124 & AS4000.
  • Proven success in estimating/ contract negotiation / contract administration / project management experience in the construction or civil construction industry.
  • Proven experience in the surfacing industry- highly regarded.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders.
  • Excellent organisational skills with demonstrated ability to execute projects on time and on budget
  • Proficient MS Office skills: MS Word, MS Excel, MS Project
